50 Years of NC Hip-Hop
As someone who grew up inspired by the visual storytellers of hip-hop, seeing my work featured in the City of Raleigh Museum’s “Celebrating 50 Years of Hip-Hop” exhibit feels like a full-circle moment.
Being a part of this historic celebration during downtown Raleigh’s festival is truly humbling—especially as a female photographer in a culture that has always been both powerful and transformative. I draw inspiration from legendary photographers like Sue Kwon, Lisa Leone, and Ravie B, women whose work has captured the raw energy, emotion, and history of hip-hop in ways that transcend time.
To now finding myself contributing to that narrative here in North Carolina is surreal. Hip-hop isn’t just music—it’s a movement, a voice, and a reflection of resilience and creativity. Through my lens, I aim to honor that story and the community that keeps it alive.
Thank you to the City of Raleigh Museum for not only celebrating hip-hop but for creating space for photographers like me to continue documenting its legacy.
